Is a postmark acceptable, or do I have to pay in person on the due date?
An official Post Office postmark or cancellation (not a postage machine date) determines the payment date for all mailed payments. Be advised that if you mail your payment on the due date, you might not receive that day's postmark. You may want to have it hand canceled at your local Post Office to assure that you receive that day's postmark. If you send a tax payment by commercial courier service, the Treasurer's Office will verify a sent date with the carrier in the event that it is necessary.
